Before you leave your country for Syracuse, you will need to apply for your F-1 Student Visa at a United States Embassy or Consulate. We recommend that you apply at a U.S. facility within your home country as it may be more difficult to gain approval for a visa outside your country of residence. If you will be studying on a J-1 visa, contact us for more information as there are some slight differences.
Before you apply for your visa, you must pay the Student Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS) Fee of $200. You can pay the fee online at https://www.fmjfee.com by credit card. Proof of fee payment will be required at your visa interview. Any dependents who are accompanying you will receive their own I-20 document but will NOT be required to pay the SEVIS fee.
