For some students, spending the holidays away from home is a difficult time. For others, it is a time to experience more of their host culture and learn about new holidays. This past December, three ELI students on exchange from Tokai University had the opportunity to spend Christmas with an American family. Margaret Thompson, an employee of Syracuse University, invited Kohei Hata, Satsuki Honda, and Kaishin Kato to dinner with her and her husband. The students raved about what a great time they had. To end the evening, Margaret took the students through Lights on the Lake, a holiday staple for residents of Central New York. Experiences like these make the program at the English Language Institute of Syracuse University a truly memorable time for the students.
